$200M Pledged To Climate Change Fund – Dec 11, 2014
Australia will contribute $200 million over four years to a UN fund created to help poor nations cope with global warming. This is a major policy reversal, for Prime Minister Tony Abbott, with the fund allocated from Australias aid budget. Pledging the dollars to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is a major part of a plan agreed to in 2009, aimed at raising $100 billion a year by 2020. This is seen as vital step in unlocking the U.N. climate deal in late 2015. The G20 summit held in Brisbane, Australia last month saw leaders address the issue of climate change, with Japan pledging $1.5 billion and the U.S. $3 billion towards funding efforts.
