Incident Overview: There is a marsh fire with smoky conditions at the Barataria Preserve, in the Jean Lafitte area. Updates will posted on our social media channels. The Jefferson Parish Fire Services and Emergency Management team, along with the Lafitte, Barataria, Crown Point Volunteer Fire Department, Harvey Volunteer Fire Company #2, Marrero-Harvey Volunteer Fire Department, Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office, Westwego Police Department, and Jean Laffite Police Department, are all on the ground assisting the National Park Service in fighting a marsh fire in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The marsh fire has created smoky conditions in the Lafitte/Crown Point/Barataria area. Children, people with asthma, COPD, heart disease and those who are pregnant need to be especially careful about breathing wildfire smoke.
