Lauren Bush Lauren: Designing Eco-Friendly Products to Help Feed the World (I Am Eco Warrior)
www.iamecowarrior.com in partnership with youtube.com/user/FEEDprojectsAfter traveling to Chad as a Student Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Program in 2005, presidential niece and humanitarian Lauren Bush Lauren designed a bag to benefit the WFP’s School Feeding program. Together with her former U.N. colleague Ellen Gustafson, Bush launched FEED Projects in 2007 with the mission of creating good products to help FEED the world. To date, FEED has raised enough funds to provide over 60 million school meals to children worldwide. FEED has also partnered with the US Fund for UNICEF to support their Vitamin A and micronutrient supplements program and to provide over 46,000 children with essential nutrients.Transcript–Lauren Bush Lauren, Founder & CEO, FEEDWell my family was always very encouraging of volunteering and getting involved in different causes. I feel very blessed in that social responsibility was always sort of a way of life.I was able to go travel around the world with the UN World Food Program. To go and to see it on the ground, it’s just a whole ‘nother thing because there’s no safety nets there. That was really life-changing and eye-opening, and it was from that experience of really seeing hands-on the levels of hunger and poverty around the world that I then dedicated my life to wanting to help that and started FEED. The FEED ProjectFEED’s mission is to create good products that help feed the world. Originally it really was just this kind of instinctual, aha moment, where I thought of the idea for the original FEED bag, and FEED in general, as a way to raise money for these programs that I really believed in. So far we’ve been able to give over 60 million school meals to kids around the world. And we hope to continue to grow and evolve what we’re doing and help more and more people.Really, our mission is just to keep engaging people on the issue of world hunger here in America and abroad through making of eco-friendly products, but also through our foundation. So part of the motivation behind creating FEED was to create a reusable shopping bag that would not only feed kids and give meals but would really encourage people to use reusable bags. What does IAMECO Warrior mean to you?I would define an Eco Warrior as an everyday citizen who is making a conscious effort to better the environment. Join the MovementI just think it’s about taking those small steps, really just being conscious in your daily life, whether it’s about the environment and sort of small things you can do, like recycling or walking to work and giving back, or being more environmentally conscious. So I think there’s many different levels: at your home, at work, and just sort of in your daily life.Share your eco Causewww.iamecowarrior.comDirected by Roger Moenks
