President Obama spoke to the League of Conservation Voters Wednesday night about climate change, and he took a few minutes to mock Republican climate change skeptics who state very openly they “don’t believe anything scientists say” and actually believe it’s a “hoax” or a “liberal plot.” The president found it amazing that there are Republicans who constantly preface comments on climate change with the phrase “I’m not a scientist.” To Obama, that sounds a lot like “I accept that man-made climate change is real, but if I say so out loud, I will be run out of town by a bunch of fringe elements that think climate science is a liberal plot so I’m just going to pretend like I don’t know, I can’t read.” Obama said he’s not a scientist and neither is he a doctor, but if a group of doctors tell him that tobacco causes lung cancer, he’s going to accept that because, you know, they kind of know what they’re talking about.
