Extinct genus of dinosaurs

Thyreosaurus is an extinct genus of herbivorous stegosaurian dinosaur from the Middle Jurassic of Morocco. The genus contains a single species, Thyreosaurus atlasicus. Its fossils found in rocks of the El Mers III Formation (Bathonian–?Callovian) in the Middle Atlas of Morocco. Known material represented by a disarticulated partial skeleton consisting of dorsal vertebrae and ribs, a limb bone (presumably fibula) and dermal bones. Thyreosaurus had a unique dermal armor with an asymmetrical texture.[1]

Classification

According to the analysis carried out in the description of Thyreosaurus, it is closely related to Dacentrurus among Dacentrurinae.[1]
