Phoenix, AZ – Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Arizona State University (ASU), Arizona Persian Cultural Center (AZPCC), and over thirty community partners are proud to host the 3rd Annual Nowruz at Civic Space Park on March 16, 2024. This event will feature a multicultural night market and resource fair spotlighting Phoenix’s refugee and immigrant communities.

“As we welcome spring and the Persian New Year in Phoenix, I’m so proud to have grown Nowruz into a celebratory and inclusive community event where thousands can learn about our rich history, diverse communities and continue to build a more connected city,” said Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari. “From supporting new entrepreneurs to relishing in delicious cuisine and dance, I hope you join us in setting thoughtful intentions for a prosperous and peaceful year to come,” she added.

Nowruz is celebrated in countries with significant Persian cultural influence, which includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkey, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Every year, Nowruz attracts thousands of attendees to Downtown Phoenix for a one-of-a-kind festival featuring cuisine, handmade crafts, interactive arts, and performances. To ensure we continue to grow this event as an inclusive and thoughtful community celebration, we will transform this year’s layout into a night market to respect many Phoenicians who may also be observing Ramadan.

This year, we aim to continue building community beyond borders. Attendees can purchase traditional foods and handmade goods from local restaurants and artists representing the Persian and Middle Eastern communities. Those vendors include Afghan Clothing and Jewelry, Al Zhoubani Sweets, Fine Arts by Nada, Habbouz Tunisian Cuisine, Hummus Express, Jamila Kitchen, Khatoon, Rabah’s Henna, Rodian Syrian Kitchen, Rozi Market, and Tzikii Food Truck.

Local non-profit organizations and government agencies will be available to share resources and services, particularly those tailored to Phoenix’s immigrant and refugee communities. The nonprofits include the Afghan Student Association at ASU, Arizona Persian Yellow Pages, Arizona Refugee Center, Catholic Charities, Lutheran Social Services, Rafi Law Group, and Right Home Care.

What’s new: Nowruz will feature a special, exclusive performance from Grammy-award-winning Iranian composer, musician, and member of Opium Moon, Hamid Saeidi, and a 4-member band. In 2019, Saeidi and his band won the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album for their eponymously named “Opium Moon.”

A huge thank you to our community sponsors, Rafi Law Group, APS, SRP, the Phoenix Aviation Department, and many more who made this event possible.
