Viewer discretion is advised.The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) which occurred on January 27, 2024.This incident began when officers responded to an emergency call of an armed robbery at a pawn shop located in the area of 19th Avenue and Indian School Road. An employee for the store called 911 to report the incident and provided a description of a man and women involved. When officers got to the scene, employees pointed out the man and woman who were walking west on Indian School Road. Officers saw the man and woman described and gave verbal commands to put the gun down. One officer used a 40 mm less-lethal launcher several times in the direction of the man.The man then approached a truck stopped in the roadway and began to hit the truck’s window with a gun attempting to get in. Officers approached the man at which time four officers fired their duty weapon stopping the man.After the shooting, the man was taken to the hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.The woman involved in the original robbery was taken into custody and later booked for felony charges.Four officers were involved in this critical incident. They are all assigned to the Mountain View Precinct and have three, four and, five years of service with the Department respectively.Conclusions about whether the actions of the officers are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete.
