Earthquake news today: A strong earthquake jolted Afghanistan on Wednesday evening, triggering panic and fear among the residents. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the quake of 4.5 magnitude struck Afghanistan at 6.27 PM.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the NCS said that the epicentre of the quake was reported at a depth of 10 km in Afghanistan at latitude 36.02 and longitude 70.99. Strong tremors were felt by the people of Afghanistan as soon as the earthquake struck. No loss of lives or injuries and damage to the properties have been reported so far.

The quake came hours after tremors were felt in Myanmar. The NCS said in a tweet that an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale struck Myanmar at 1.06 PM. The epicentre of the quake was reported at a depth of 70 km in Myanmar at latitude 22.44 and longitude 93.85. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Landslide caused due to snowfall in Afghanistan

25 people were killed and several others sustained injuries due to a landslide triggered by heavy snowfall in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province last week. The tragedy struck Nakre village in Nuristan and at least 20 houses were either completely damaged or destroyed.

Earthquakes hit Afghanistan last year

Twin earthquakes that struck western Afghanistan last year led to the death of more than 4000 people. Over 2,000 houses were destroyed and hundreds of people were injured due to the two back-to-back 6.2-magnitude earthquakes.
