EPPD and DPS Joint Citizen’s Academy Graduates Fourth Class for 2019
EL PASO – The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are pleased to announce the graduation of the fourth class of our Joint Citizen’s Academy. Fourteen students graduated on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019. The graduation was held at the El Paso County 911 District Office, located at 6055 Threadgill Ave. EPPD Chief Greg Allen and DPS Lieutenant Jaime Aburto spoke to the class about the importance of our citizens participating and contributing to the safety and security of El Paso and the state of Texas through good citizenship and support of law enforcement.
The students completed the eight-week academy and were introduced to various programs and services provided by law enforcement. Students were provided interactive, hands-on education during weekly meetings throughout the academy.
Students learned about the different services each agency offers, including SWAT, DPS aircraft operations, K-9 units, criminal investigations, civilian response to active shooters and many other law enforcement activities. The students also toured the DPS Crime Lab, participated in ride-a-longs with Officers and Troopers, and conducted firearms training.
The Joint Citizen’s Academy is designed to educate students about the many safety challenges Texans face every day and how law enforcement organizations protect and serve the state on a daily basis to.
Applications for the spring academy are now available, with the next academy set to begin on Feb. 4, 2020.
