[ad_1]

Less than two weeks after the president approved a federal disaster declaration for the state of Rhode Island for the flooding, severe storms and tornado winds that took place Sept. 10-13, 2023, $1,036,133 has been granted in federal assistance.

Residents of Providence County affected by the Sept. 10 – 13, 2023 disaster are eligible to apply for FEMA’s Individual and Households Program which includes grants for rental assistance and home repair and Other Needs Assistance, which may include reimbursement for damaged personal property and other necessary expenses incurred as a result of the disaster. This funding is for those who have uninsured or underinsured necessary expenses from disaster damage.

The total amount includes federal assistance to 240 approved applicants and breaks down as follows:

  • $978,738 in FEMA housing grants to help pay for home repair, home replacement and rental assistance for temporary housing.
  • $57,395 in Other Needs Assistance, which may include childcare, moving and storage and any medical/dental costs incurred as a result of the disaster.

To apply for FEMA assistance, call the Helpline at 800-621-3362, or go online to DisasterAssistance.gov or download the FEMA App. FEMA offers help in many languages through our Helpline. If you use a relay service such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA your number for that service when you apply.

FEMA often refers disaster survivors to SBA to apply for a low-interest disaster loan. If you are referred to SBA, you are not required to take out a loan but you if you don’t fill out the application, you may not be eligible for certain FEMA grants. SBA disaster loans are the largest source of federal disaster recovery funds for survivors. Applicants may apply online at SBA.gov/disaster, call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance.

FEMA is committed to ensuring disaster assistance is accomplished equitably, without discrimination on the grounds of race, color, religion, nationality, sex, age, disability, English proficiency, or economic status.  Any disaster survivor or member of the public may contact the FEMA Civil Rights Office if they feel that they are the victim of discrimination.  FEMA’s Civil Rights Office can be contacted toll-free at 833-285-7448. Multilingual operators are available.
