Popular wing spot opens second, bigger location in Golden

Eddie Renshaw and Evan Pierce finally have some elbow room in their new, larger Golden kitchen.
On Friday, Feb. 16, the owners of King of Wings debuted their second location at 1100 Arapahoe St. in downtown Golden. The 2,800-square-foot space is 50% bigger than their Wheat Ridge spot, which reopened in March last year after a kitchen fire had shuttered its doors.
Coming down from a Super Bowl high, where they sold out in pre-orders, Renshaw and Pierce are relieved to have some more space.
“One of the reasons we signed a lease in Golden is because we’re so busy,” Renshaw said. “We know the demand that we have. Wheat Ridge can fill up fast with 20-person lines, and having two locations will alleviate some of that pressure on the weekends.”
King of Wings Tap & Tequila, open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., includes all of the restaurant’s signature sauces, plus three new ones: a lemon pepper rub, hot agave lime buffalo and white Alabama barbecue, for its grilled (not fried) wings.
Both locations are also serving Little Arthur’s Hoagies’ gooey butter cake slices, a nod to the owners’ hometown of St. Louis, Mo., and cookies for dessert. To make things extra spicy, guests can pull up a chair at the new tequila bar for some house, top-shelf or cherry mezcal margaritas, or choose from the tap wall’s 29 local beers — about twice the number at the original location.
In May, Renshaw and Pierce plan to bring back Snipeburger — their smashburger concept inspired by their favorite childhood restaurant Carl’s Drive-In — to the Golden location on Wednesdays. They eventually hope to open a standalone space for Snipeburger.
“We’ve been making burgers with mobile flat-tops on wheels on the patio of the Wheat Ridge location, but with the larger Golden space, we’ll finally be able to do things inside,” Renshaw said.
