PRX Expands Digital Fundraising Resources for Public Radio Stations

Participating stations include KERA in Dallas, WESA in Pittsburgh, WUSF in Tampa, and more

Public media organization PRX is announcing new fundraising resources available to stations across the public radio system.

These new digital offerings will be additive to current resources for use on terrestrial airwaves, which include pledge spots that may be used any time, specific programming to accompany pledge drives, and periodic premium gifts or experiences.

“We center public radio in everything we do, and we’ll continue to innovate and forge connections between beloved programs and stations,” said Sean Nesbitt, Senior Director of Industry Partnerships at PRX. “Our goal is to expand public media and the resources available to us at a crucial time for our industry.”

Public radio stations airing programs distributed by PRX will now also have access to the following digital tools:

• Email support from public radio show hosts. This will include a mix of shows across genres of storytelling, news, political talk, food, and more, such as This American Life, The World, Latino USA, Milk Street Radio, and Left, Right, and Center. PRX will help enable stations to send custom fundraising emails to their listeners authored by their favorite hosts.
• Pre-roll messages for online streaming. Public radio stations streaming their programming on-demand online will have access to multiple fundraiser appeals voiced by show hosts in the form of brief pre-roll messages — ranging from This American Life to Latino USA — for use once programming begins, when listeners press play.
• Midroll messages within podcasts. Radio broadcasts distributed by PRX that also have podcasts distributed by PRX — including Latino USA, The World, and Left, Right & Center — will air a message within the midroll of their podcasts during coordinated pledge week, encouraging listeners to consider their local public radio station when contemplating giving.

Stations participating and providing feedback on PRX’s new digital resources for public radio fundraising include KERA in Dallas, Texas, WESA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, WUSF in Tampa, Florida, WFSU in Tallahassee, Florida, WCMU in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and more.
