Earthquake in Afghanistan: The earthquake-sensitive land of Afghanistan has once again been shaken by earthquake vibrations. Strong earthquake tremors were felt here. According to the National Seismology Centre, the intensity of the earthquake was estimated at 5.3 on the Richter scale. Its center was 146 kilometers deep from the ground. Tremors were felt in some areas of Pakistan. At present there is no news of any damage, but considering the intensity of the earthquake, huge damage is expected.
There have been frequent earthquakes in Afghanistan in recent times. Earlier last month, on February 21, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude had occurred in the morning. People were sleeping in their homes when the earthquake occurred. Some people who were awake felt the vibration. According to the National Center for Seismology, the depth of the earthquake was recorded at 10 km. This was the second earthquake within 24 hours. Earlier, an earthquake of 4.7 magnitude had occurred in Faizabad, Afghanistan.
Earthquake caused devastation in Afghanistan
Let us tell you that in the month of October last year, a deadly earthquake in Herat province of Afghanistan had killed more than 4000 people and thousands of residential houses were destroyed. Herat and surrounding areas were shaken by the 6.3 magnitude earthquake and its powerful aftershocks.
Earthquake occurs due to collision of plates
The earth is mainly made up of four layers, which are called inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The crust and upper mantle are called lithosphere. These are 50 kilometer thick layers, which are called tectonic plates. These tectonic plates keep moving, rotating and sliding from their place. These plates usually shift from their place by about 4-5 mm every year. They can move from their place both horizontally and vertically. In this sequence, sometimes one plate moves closer to the other plate and sometimes it moves away. During this time sometimes these plates collide with each other. Only in such circumstances an earthquake occurs and the earth shakes. These plates are about 30-50 km below the surface.
